Do it every 200 miles or so. Kerosene works to clean.

I've had good results with Motul Chain Clean and Silkolene Pro Synthetic lube. After every ride (except commuting).

wd 40 screws up the o rings in o ring chainz supposed to a parafinic type  o stuff like kerosene but it penetrates an also seems to crack said o ruings  ymmv but sarges chains last 15-20 k instead of 8 or 10 like when sarge used wd40
